How can I control erosion, ground washing on a big hardstand area made up with rubble. Rubble is washing away. Water is washing away to the wrong side of the intended flow, thus washing the soil on the hardstand.

Hello Karnal, It sounds like you need to manage the catchment into smaller sizes appropriately so that the scour velocity is reduced. Once velocity is reduced enough the hardstand area should be able to shed water without damage.

Out of curiosity to see if anyone is looking at this forum, Iâll post a technical question on the final Appendix B â Rev June 2018 sorry subscript doesn't work in the forum so the equations look a bid odd.

Hi Douglas, Thanks for using the forum - hopefully we will see more on it soon! Equation B28 is just Equation B27 with the velocity set to 0.015m/s. The 66.7 is (1/0.015).

Thanks Kyle, Nice to see this is a good place for a technical question. And quick. I had tried to use equation B27 straight into my spreadsheet, hence the problem.

While IECA (2008), clearly defines timeframes for stabilation after the completion of works or suspension of works, should it go further to included the max time an area can be exposed?

I am not sure Bec. I think that could present problems for developers with long construction timeframes? How do you think it would look/feel?

Apart from on steep embankments, what other situations would Surface Roughening not be encouraged?

On sites with dispersive soils I think surface roughening will lead to additional problems. The aim being not to have any water pooling or siting for long periods.

Kurt Laboyrie

Emmerson Aggregate test for a quick in field test. Depending on outcome then more detailed lab testing if dispersability is an issue. SCS has a soils lab that can do testing for you.
