Hunter Valley mining erosion and sediment control and rehabilitation fundamentals workshop
IECA Australasia in partnership with the Hunter Coal Environment Group (HCEG) are excited to host a workshop addressing the fundamental principles and practices of mining erosion and sediment control, material characterisation, landform design and revegetation. The workshop will provide comprehensive insights into the erosion and sediment control and rehabilitation risks associated with conventional and geomorphic mining landforms, core revegetation science, circular economy approaches to erosion and sediment control, and novel technologies and proprietary products that can be used to address growth media deficits. The event will feature expert speakers who will share their knowledge and experiences on various aspects of these topics.
Event Date: Thursday 22May.
Event Time: 9am to 4pm.
Venue: Singleton Diggers.
Cost: IECA Members $250, Non Members $350
PDH credits: 5
Speakers and Topics:
- Michael Frankcombe, Rehabilitation and Closure Specialist, Aurelia Metals: Mining erosion and sediment control fundamentals including the erosion risks associated with conventional and geomorphic mining landforms and how those risks can be mitigated.
- Evan Howard, Principal Consultant, Landloch: The importance of material characterisation, mining landform design process, common landform design mistakes, and how to avoid them.
- Jason Lange - Atlas Soils: The application of circular economy approaches to erosion and sediment control and mine rehabilitation; particularly how easy it is to make your own topsoil from recycled organics.
- Paul Storer - Senior Consultant Soil Microbiologist at EnviroStraw: The importance and role soil biology plays in successful mine rehabilitation.
- Peter York - Environment Superintendent, Thiess: Mt Pleasant Mine case study.
We would also like to invite you to attend a site tour to Mount Pleasant on Friday 23rd May. The site tour will allow participants an opportunity to observe current mining operations and various rehabilitation areas of different ages and vegetation types. The tour will include viewing several completed rock drain and progressive rock drain construction works. There are limited places so you must register separately for this event.
