About the Workshop:
This workshop introduces participants to the fundamentals of erosion and sediment control during construction. It is designed for those who have only a basic knowledge and want to build their skills in this area. It will address erosion and sediment control considerations for a wide range of construction projects including residential, commercial, industrial, Council works and minor road works.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Why is erosion of construction sites such a problem?
  • The basics of soils – why some soils are such a pain in the a…!
  • Erosion control versus sediment control
  • Erosion and sediment control products and techniques – what they do (and don’t do!)
  • Examples (good and bad!) from residential, commercial, airport, roadwork and Council sites around Australia
  • Common mistakes and problems – examples of people stuffing it up!
  • Introduction to the regulatory expectations in NSW and the NSW Blue Book
  • Revegetation do’s and don’t’s.

This workshop would make a great introduction for those with little knowledge of erosion and sediment control, or for those who’d like to refresh their skills and ensure they’re up-to-date with best practice expectations, legislation, products and techniques.

About the Presenters:

Andrew Macleod is one of Australia’s leading voices for erosion and sediment control and is the current President of IECA Australasia. He has trained over 4,000 people, always hoping to instil in them a passion for soils, water and for environmental stewardship. Andrew leads SEEC, a small environmental engineering consultancy specialising in soil and water management. He works all over Australia providing consulting, expert witness and training services to the mining, gas, infrastructure, residential and commercial sectors.

Michael Frankcombe is passionate about revegetation, soils and seeing things done right on construction projects. He is the immediate past President of IECA Australasia and currently works for Seymour Whyte in NSW. Prior to taking on that role, Michael worked as a consultant across Australia agitating for better practice in erosion and sediment control. He is an experienced and engaging trainer and has worked on some of the largest mining, gas and infrastructure projects in Australia’s history.
