Mastering ESC Strategies in High-Risk Environments – Insights from the Edgar Dam Project, Tasmania.

Join us for an interactive event dedicated to the practical challenges and solutions of erosion and sediment control (ESC) in complex operational contexts. Using real examples from the Edgar Dam upgrade, participants will gain actionable knowledge on safeguarding dam safety and protecting the environment.
Key learning outcomes:
  • Understand how ESC measures are planned and implemented in high-risk environments, including work near water bodies and within operational infrastructure, with an emphasis on maintaining dam safety and environmental integrity.
  • Identify effective techniques for large-scale earthworks, such as toe pond excavation, sedimentation ponds, drainage controls, and material management, and evaluate how each method reduces sediment mobilisation during staged construction.
  • Recognise the critical importance of integrating ESC practices with strict environmental and regulatory controls, especially in sensitive landscapes, to ensure downstream water quality, preserve local flora and fauna, and protect long-term asset performance.
This workshop is ideal for engineers, environmental professionals, and anyone involved in earthworks or infrastructure upgrades. Discover how targeted ESC strategies can make a measurable difference in both project outcomes and environmental stewardship.
