VALE DOUG WIMBLE

VALE DOUG WIMBLE

6th Nov 17

IECA Australasia is deeply saddened with the passing of Doug Wimble on Monday this week.

Doug had been involved with the erosion and sediment control industry for nearly 50 years through his company Spraygrass.  Early in his career he became aware of the need for recognition as an industry, and became a member of the IECA in 1979. In 1982 Doug attended his first IECA Conference in Salt Lake City US and in 1983 was invited to attend the IECA Conference in San Diego as a Keynote Speaker. Doug was made an Honorary Director of the US Board in 1986 and, as part of his tenure pushed for the formation of a Chapter of the IECA in Australia.

In 1994, after intensive lobbying from Doug and Rick Morse, IECA Australasia finally received its Charter from the US, the first Chapter to be chartered outside of the USA. Doug was elected President of the founding Committee of the IECA(Australasia).

From 1994 to 1999 Doug continued as President, attending conferences held in Australia and the US, acting as Ambassador in the Asia-Pacific Region, and bringing to the attention of Government officials the need for an increased focus on issues relating to soil erosion and water management.

Doug stood down as IECA Australasia President at the end of 1999, and at this time he was elected to the Board of the US-based IECA Headquarters for a term of three years and also became a Certified Professional in Erosion & Sediment Control (CPECS US Cert).  This enabled him along with Rick Morse to develop the CPESC program in Australia.

In recent times Doug has been a member of the IECA Region 2 Board and also sat on the Inter-Regional Committee (IRC).  Doug was very active on the Region 2 Board right to the end and was working hard to see IECA become reunited as a truly international association.

Doug you will be missed greatly.  Rest in peace.

The entire IECA community sends its condolences to Doug’s wife Judy and the whole Wimble family.

Doug’s service will be held in the North Chapel, Northern Suburbs Crematorium, ‘Delhi Road, North Ryde on Thursday 9 November at 11.15am

In Lieu of flowers please make donations to Myeloma on the day of the service.
