Quinchella: Celebrating a Legacy, Supporting a Cause

In May 2024, our community experienced a heartbreaking loss with the sudden passing of Quinn McIntyre due to cardiac arrest.

Quinn was a passionate environmentalist with over 18 years of professional experience in erosion and sediment control. He set high standards through his work in New Zealand and Australia and was deeply committed to his community. Quinn generously offered his expertise pro bono to charities and organized free training for local contractors. His dedication went beyond his professional life; he cared deeply about his community and the environment, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire us all. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Quinn was posthumously awarded the IECA Australasia Sustained Contributor award for 2024.

Throughout his life, Quinn embodied the four pillars of IECA’s strategic blueprint:

  • Improving knowledge, best practices, and innovation in erosion and sediment control.
  • Engaging members and the broader community through partnerships, outreach, and communication.
  • Connecting industry professionals through conferences, networking, and sponsored events.
  • Advocating for better education and understanding of erosion and sediment control best practices and standards.

To honour Quinn’s memory, his family and friends have decided to celebrate his birthday in January by hosting a music festival called Quinnchella. This festival aims to raise funds for the New Zealand charity Cure Kids, specifically for cardiac research.

The IECA Australasia Board would like to encourage you to support this cause by either attending the event or making a donation via the Quinnchella website, make sure you let them know your support is from a fellow Erosioneer!
